If you are a landlord and your city has just switched to a pay-as-you-throw trash collection method, you may be left with a lot of tenants who aren't all that happy that they now have to buy special trash bags in order to get rid of their trash. There are ways that you can get around that and still make sure that your tenants all throw their garbage away the way that they should.

Dumpster

One thing that you can do is to rent some dumpsters. With the dumpsters, you can place them in driveways or parking lots and your tenants can just throw the trash in the dumpsters. You can arrange for the waste removal company to come and pick up the dumpster on a weekly or bi-weekly basis, depending how many tenants you have and how much trash they throw away. You may want to arrange to have the trash collected weekly until you figure out the averages when it comes to the trash. If you find that the dumpsters aren't all the way full, you may want to either switch to a smaller dumpster or longer intervals in between pickups.

Compactor

Another option is to get a rental trash compactor. There are different ways that you can use a trash compactor to help deal with the trash. One is that you can install it in the cellar of your building if your building has a cellar. The tenants would be able to throw their trash into the compactor container and then when the container is full, the compactor can be triggered. Using a compactor will help to stretch the amount of time in between pickups since the compactor can mash the trash down into a smaller mass, thus taking up less room in your the dumpster. If you are going to install it in your cellar, you are going to want to make sure of a few things. One is that you are going to need to make sure that you have an easy way to get the trash out of the dumpster and out of the building. Another is that you are going to have to have a way to make sure that the compactor gets operated safely so that none of your tenants get injured while they are using it or damage it while they are using it.

If your town now requires you to buy special trash bags to throw trash away, you may want to come up with options for your tenants.
